Basilisk

· Patch 5.01

Basilisks are draconids with bird-like beaks, webbed wings, sharp teeth and hooked talons, found in Velen, Novigrad and Skellige. Despite the legends they cannot turn anyone to stone with their gaze, but their venom, acid, claws and teeth are deadly enough. They lie in wait in dark, damp places such as caves, cellars and sewers, and their leather is prized, which has made them a target for hunters.

Basilisk is a monster from the draconid class in The Witcher 3. It is vulnerable to: Golden Oriole, Grapeshot, Draconid oil, Aard. Where to find it: Velen, Novigrad, Skellige. Loot includes Basilisk venom, Basilisk hide, Basilisk mutagen, Dragon scales and 12 more. It appears in 2 quests, including Ciri's Story: Out of the Shadows.

Weaknesses

Oil for the silver sword, signs and bombs listed in the bestiary entry.

Where it appears

  • Velen
  • Novigrad
  • Skellige

How to beat: Basilisk

Drink Golden Oriole before the fight to resist the basilisk's venom and coat your silver sword with Draconid oil. Grapeshot and other bombs work well, and a well-timed bomb or Igni can bring a flying basilisk down to the ground and leave it unable to defend itself properly. Aard is also effective at keeping it grounded. Watch for it parrying your strikes with its wings and then leaping up for a crushing overhead claw attack. It can also hover in the air and spit acid from above, so be ready to dodge when it takes off.

Loot

Possible drops – not every kill yields all of them.
